Litz wire under a microscope. There are 28 strands of 0.375 mm enamelled wire.

The wire is cut an an angle to its axis, to better illustrate the presence of enamel on each strand. The outer diameter of each strand was 0.43 mm, so the thickness of the enamel on each strand was 0.0275 mm.
