Grain-oriented electrical steel

Stan Zurek, Grain-oriented electrical steel, Encyclopedia Magnetica, E-Magnetica.pl

Grain-oriented electrical steel - alloy of Fe with up with 6.5% Si, optimised for its magnetic properties, manufactured in laminations or thin sheets (typically less than 0.5 mm) and with crystals of each grain aligned accordingly with respect to the rolling direction. 1)2)3)

Chemical composition of grain-oriented electrical steels:3) typically electrical steels contain around 3% of silicon (but it can vary between 0.2–3.4%), sometimes with addition of aluminium; the balance is iron. Special steel can contain up to 6.5% of Si.
